- Now on the Startup tab of the System Configuration window dialog box, click on Ok.
- Reboot your computer.
For Windows 7 and Windows Vista users,
- Turn on your computer in safe mode.
- Log in to your computer with Administrator rights.
- Click on Start > type msconfig.exe in the Search box and hit Enter.
- The System Configuration box will appear.
- Click on the General tab > select Selective startup > uncheck the ‘Load startup items’ box.
- Click on the Services tab > check the box beside ‘Hide all Microsoft services’ > Disable all.
- Click Ok and Restart your PC.
After the computer restarts, the Clean Boot State will appear. Now you can try installing Windows Updates again.
(6) Rename or delete pending.XML file
Still if your windows update stuck and you’re unable to resolve it then try this.
- Turn on your computer in safe mode.
- Navigate to C:\Windows\WinSxS\ folder and look for the pending.XML file.
- Rename the file or you may even delete it.
- Now restart your computer.
This will allow Windows Update to execute the pending tasks and start a fresh update again.
